project: floating breakwater

year: 2006

concept:
Based on the criteria of wave suppression, lower impact on the environment, cleaner appearance, more dock space, and less cost, I created the concept for a pre-fabricated floating breakwater.

goal: To apply physics, engineering, and motion dynamics to create a floating breakwater that can block waves for a harbor, and to continue to do so in extreme flooding conditions.

The storm side end of each dock module creates a sine wave to dissipate the energy of waves. Dock modules join together to form one solid unit. An overflow drain even takes care of larger waves that may go over the dock edge.
