Windsurfing Kentucky & Southern Indiana

Kentucky, Southern Indiana, and Southern Illinois have many lakes and rivers within their borders, including Kentucky Lake which is the largest manmade lake in the eastern United States. This website is designed to be a resource for finding locations to windsurf in the Kentucky and Southern Indiana area, and to connect windsurfers in and around this area so that we can share our experiences and grow this incredible sport.

There is also an online forum as a YahooGroup for exchanging locations, events, and experiences in regards to windsurfing around the Kentucky and Southern Indiana area. The online forum is also the perfect place to find other windsurfers in these areas. The YahooGroup link can be found to the right.

A page full of graphs that show temperature, precipitation and of course wind for the next 48 hours. This has proven to be the most accurate source for wind conditions, including gusts, for me personally. NOAA's National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office s the source for this information

A nice 15 day forecast to plan future days on the water. Accuweather.com is the source for this information

I have found that most weather services only give the base wind velocity. Accuweather is one of the only sites that has forecasting including wind gusts. Accuweather.com is the website for this information

Exellent resource to plan your day accordingly as the conditions change. Typically in our region the wind is at its strongest at 2-3 P.M., but certainly that is not always the case. Accuweather.com is the website for this information

For lakes that are created by a dam, the mapped location is typically the site of the dam. Maps by Map Quest

A topographic map of the area is useful for finding roads, boat ramps, and other items of interest. Using the topographic information is also helpful to determine which area will have cleaner wind that has not had to find its way around large objects like trees and hills. The Patoka Lake Beach is an excellent launching area except during the season from Memorial Day until Labora Day when they do not allow any launching of boats or boards from there.ny to name.
